Warren Rugby Celebrates 60 Years

A preview of the new Theo Clark Media documentary on the history of Warren Rugby was screened at the Victoria Oval sports centre on Saturday, where 400 guests had gathered to celebrate the 60th anniversary of the club. Wallaby legend and 1991 World Cup-winning captain, Nick Farr-Jones, was the guest speaker at the dinner, which followed a Golden Oldies match and the main match of the round against rivals Coonamble. Three players from the original 1954 season "ran" out for the Oldies - Andrew Wass, "Bomber" Moxham and Tony McCalary, watched from the stands by nine other originals.

Scenes from the day will feature in the completed documentary which is following the team's fortunes through the 2014 Western Plains Rugby season, and interviewing stars and stalwarts from the club to capture its unique history and spirit. As Nick Farr-Jones told the audience after watching the preview: "You have an amazing record to have never forfeited a first grade match... and as [Chris Brennan] said in the video, when you weren't winning matches, you were still having a bloody good time trying... as a guy who comes from the city and who has a semblance of the issues that country people have - the cycles, the perseverance that's required - the blood, sweat and tears - I take my hat off to you."
